Garena to separate Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau from South East Asia for the 2015 GPL Season

Garena has unveiled some of its plans for the 2015 GPL season. In an announcement on their website, Garena states that they will be separating Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau from the rest of South East Asia.

The 2015 Garena Pro League Circuit will be exclusive to teams that live in South East Asia. Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau will have their own circuit called the League of Legends Master Series (LMS) which functions as the replacement for the GPL in the aforementioned regions.

All Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau based teams will be automatically transferred to the new LMS circuit and additional qualifiers will be held to fill the spots.

The GPL's qualification system will still be country based and spots to the GPL will be allocated via the following mechanism:

  • Vietnam: 6 slots

  • Singapore & Malaysia: 4 slots

  • Philippines: 3 slots

  • Thailand: 2 slots

  • Indonesia: 1 slot

Additionally, both the LMS and the GPL will be moving to a two split circuit like Riot's LCS and Tencent's LPL.

The move hopes to address some of the key complaints about the 2014 GPL seasons: namely the confusion between the qualifiers, the Taiwanese domination of the circuit and the general disparity between the multiple regions.

Garena states that additional details about their 2015 circuits will be released soon.
