Gary Stevenson to lead MLS's new business unit; Mark Abbott adds title of deputy commissioner

NEW YORK (AP) -- Gary Stevenson will lead Major League Soccer's new business unit.

The league said Wednesday that Stevenson will serve as president and managing director of MLS Business Ventures. He most recently was president of Pac-12 Enterprises, which included launching the Pac-12 Networks.

Stevenson has also been an executive at the NBA and PGA Tour. He will oversee all commercial and revenue areas for MLS and Soccer United Marketing.

MLS also announced that President Mark Abbott will add the title of deputy commissioner. He had been primarily focused on the business, legal and financial side of MLS. Abbott will now manage all areas of league operations and competition.
