Abbas is impotent and can't win a general election so Hamas is trying to use what remaining international legitamacy he has to cover their intentions to take over the Palestinian Authority and remain focused on getting much needed US and Europeon aid while hoping to destroy Israel

It's only temporary, folks. Hamas won the elections in 2006, not Abbas' party. And? They would certainly win any other elections because the Palestinian people (if allowed free elections) are sick of what Abbas' party (Fatah- party of Arafat) did (or did not do) for decades.
The USA and Unreal encouraged the formation of Hamas because Arafat and friends did not swing the way the USAreal lackeys wanted them to... now with the eye opener Hamas gave the world, don't expect the same old "starve to death while waiting to be exterminated" attitude the Palestinians are leaving behind. Be glad Palestinians are even considering leaving Unreal a part of their country after every suffering the Zionists have laid upon them. Jimmy Carter had it right in his book on this topic. The Palestinians have lost their cause, and they don't even see it. If the government allows a terrorist organization to integrate with it, then it too becomes a terrorist organization and loses all legitimacy to the world.
