Gear VR Demos Coming to 100 Best Buy Stores Feb. 8 (Report)

Those curious what Samsung's Gear VR is all about will finally have the chance to see it for themselves. According to a new report, you can try out Samsung's virtual reality headset at one of 100 Best Buy stores starting Feb. 8th.

While the Gear VR was already available for $199 via AT&T and BestBuy.com, the public has not really had a chance to experience the head-mounted display in person. If SamMobile's report is true, that will all change in a few days, as shoppers will be able to test out three-minute demos at the participating Best Buy outlets. Customers will reportedly be able to buy the headset in stores as well.

Four pre-approved demos will be available for tryout, including a clip from Transformers in virtual reality, a 360-degree picture, VR game TheBlue and the MilkVR video marketplace. According to SamMobile, demo staff will not allow anyone under the age of 13 to try the Gear VR out, and customers must be seated on a chair before starting demos. They're also prohibited from showing content other than the four pre-approved samples.

When the Samsung headset first hit BestBuy.com, it was accompanied by plenty of health disclaimers, including, "Don't use the device if you've had a seizure," and "Take frequent breaks."

SamMobile notes that this is a test program by Samsung to get feedback, and that the Korean company may expand the program if response is positive.

The Gear VR currently works with the Galaxy Note 4, turning that smartphone's display into an immersive virtual world. It's also expected to work with upcoming Samsung handsets such as the rumored Galaxy S6 and a possible Galaxy S Edge.
