This is the Generation EQ: Stunning photos and video footage of Mercedes’ hot new EV concept

Mercedes-Benz on Thursday finally took the wraps off its hotly anticipated all-electric SUV concept, the Generation EQ. The Paris Motor Show provided the backdrop for the unveiling, which yielded the first of many EVs that will fall under the new Mercedes "EQ" brand. This first EQ model is a mid-size SUV that resembles what you might end up with if you combine a GLC300 with something out of Tron, but the new concept design still manages to maintain an air of elegance despite all the flash.

The Generation EQ concept vehicle is an all-electric, all-wheel drive, mid-size SUV that will be equipped with two electric motors and a 300kW battery. According to Mercedes, that battery pack will provide enough power to take the Generation EQ an average of about 310 miles per charge. That would indeed be impressive range for Mercedes' first all-electric SUV, but the Generation EQ will supposedly pack some power as well — Mercedes says its electric truck will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 5 seconds.

"The mobility of the future at Mercedes-Benz will stand on four pillars: Connected, Autonomous, Shared and Electric. 'Generation EQ' is the logical fusion of all four pillars," Daimler AG CEO Dieter Zetsche said in a statement. "The emission-free automobile is the future. And our new EQ brand goes far beyond electric vehicles. EQ stands for a comprehensive electric ecosystem of services, technologies and innovations."

While Mercedes' first EQ brand vehicle is an AUV, the company says the architecture on which it will be built can also be used on sedans, coupes and cabriolets thanks to an innovative new modular component system.
