On Monday, June 18, the Disney XD series "Pair of Kings" makes its Season 3 premiere. This time around Mitchel Musso ("Hannah Montana" and "Phineas and Ferb") is stepping down from his role as King Brady and Adam Hicks ("Lemonade Mouth" and "Zeke and Luther") will join the cast as King Boz. But a few constants remain - Doc Shaw, Ryan Ochoa and Kelsey Chow will be back to continue on in their roles as Boomer, Lanny and Mikalya.
Geno Segers, who came to Hollywood via the Australian and Chinese touring companies of "The Lion King," plays Mason. He is the royal advisor to the heirs to the throne on the magical island of Kinkow. Segers began his career as an athlete, playing rugby first on the American National League and then for the Richmond Rovers in New Zealand. But when friends kept encouraging him to showcase his deep, bass voice, he wound up auditioning first for radio then for theater jobs. His role on "Pair of Kings" is his first-ever lead role on a TV show. In a recent exclusive interview Segers talked about his new co-star Hicks as well as Ochoa and Kelsey.
Geno Segers Talks About Adam Hicks
In 2011 Segers worked with Adam Hicks as a guest star on "Zeke and Luther." He recalled, "I saw his commitment to his work even then. So I knew that he was going to come in here and work his butt off to get it done an achieve what it is that the writers and producers wanted him to do."
Now Hicks joins the cast of "Pair of Kings," as Brady and Boomer's long lost brother, Boz. Segers found his expectations of the young actor were met. "The guy comes to work and he really puts a lot of effort and energy into it and I can't say enough about Adam."
Segers also pointed out that Hicks keeps him laughing. He stated, "Adam Hicks is very funny. His physical comedy is really funny and his character was basically raised by monkeys So he does a lot of things with his feet, which makes his physical comedy even more funny. He's very flexible. He jumps around. He eats with his feet. He peels bananas with his feet."
Geno Segers Praises Ryan Ochoa
Sixteen-year-old Ryan Ochoa plays the bad guy on "Pair of Kings," trying to take the throne from Brady and Boz. Segers had nothing but praise for the young actor. "Ryan is probably one of the smartest kids I've ever met in life." Once a high school teacher before becoming an actor he claimed, "If I had kids in my classroom half as smart as Ryan, my life would have been easier back then."
Segers is impressed especially with the young stars' memory, capable of learning a script in less than 12 hours, including a full night of sleep. "How this kid comes in off book is beyond me, but that's just who he is. He knows the line changes and he knows my lines by the end of the week. He's just on it."
Geno Segers Cramps Kelsey Chow's Style
Kelsey Chow plays Seger's daughter on the series. And the two are so close, he sometimes forgets that relationship is not real. He stated, "Kelsey is probably the sweetest girl I've ever had the pleasure of being in the presence of. I really have to remind myself that she's not my daughter when we're out and about having lunch. I can cramp her style a little bit. I'm not her dad but it's hard for me to see in her in any other light."
Segers admitted that the entire cast has become like a family to him. "We're all really very close... It's really a good situation working with Kelsey, Ryan and Doc... We really enjoy each other's company. We work together and we play together."
Tune in to the third season premiere of "Pair of Kings" on Monday, June 18, at 8:30 p.m. EST/7:30 p.m. Central on Disney XD.
