George Lucas Tells Us What Order We Should Watch The Star Wars Films In

It’s a topic of much debate among fans of Star Wars – which order should the movies be watched in?

Had they been made sequentially, this obviously wouldn’t be of any consequence at all, but as the last (now middle) three were made and released first, followed by the prequels, things have got a bit mixed up.

Thankfully, the man who made them has weighed in with his two cents.

Asked by Vulture, he said: “Start with one. That’s the way to do it right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. That’s the way they’re supposed to be done.

“Just because it took a long time to film it doesn’t mean you don’t do it in order.”

Perhaps it’s a generational matter, but those who saw the fourth movie first might still disagree with Lucas on this.

And many famous fans have discussed the order they think the films should be watched in, some with the prequels first, others starting with ‘A New Hope’.

Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in 'The Force Awakens’, agrees with Lucas, saying: “I would say 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, because for a young person it’s easier to understand the chronology.”

Avengers star Mark Ruffalo, however, disagrees, saying: “From the first one made to the most recent. Straight through. They just build up nicely that way. That’s the way I saw it, and I’m a little bit of a throwback.”

Dennis Quaid is on Team Ruffalo too, adding: “See the first one that was out, and then watch them in order. That way you get the whole experience, just as we earthlings did.”

John Boyega (Finn) is a bit more laissez-faire about the whole thing.

“I would say whatever you want! Watch 3, 6, 2, 1 — do whatever you want to do so long as you experience it a very unique way and enjoy it,” he said.

So, that’s that all sorted out then.
