Geraldo Rivera Bashes ABC Over George Stephanopoulos: ‘Liberal Wolves Would Be Howling In Front of Fox News’

Geraldo Rivera is fuming over what he perceives as a double standard in how ABC punished him 29 years ago for a political donation versus the consequences — or lack thereof — faced by George Stephanopoulos after it was revealed this week that he failed to disclose $75,000 in donations to the Clinton Foundation.

“In 1985, after 15 great years, I was fired by ABC News,” the Fox News host wrote on Facebook, recounting his termination by ABC for an undisclosed $200 political donation “to a family friend running in a non-partisan mayoral campaign in New Bedford Massachusetts” according to Rivera.

He added that the real reason for his termination was a bad relationship with his boss, former ABC News president Roone Arledge. Rivera then fast-forwarded to 2015, pointing out that ABC is not punishing — much less firing — its star morning and political anchor for his much bigger donation and similar failure to disclose.

Rivera said Stephanopoulos and his family are very pleasant, but “still, he is in major trouble.”

“Everybody has their secret favorites and personal biases. But donations cross the line for a good reason. Money raises the specter of pay for play.”

He concluded that if Bill O’Reilly, Megyn Kelly or other Fox News personalities had made a similar donation to Jeb Bush, “liberal wolves would be howling in front of Fox News.”
