Germany to allow late-night public viewing

BERLIN (AP) — German authorities will allow late-night public viewing during the World Cup in Brazil.

Environment minister Barbara Hendricks says watching football together outdoors "simply is part of a World Cup."

The government plans to suspend noise-control regulations during the tournament in Brazil to allow public viewing in designated areas. Such events are hugely popular in Germany.

Many of the games in Brazil will not kick off before 10 p.m. German time, which is usually the time by which public events such as concerts in residential areas have to end.
