COMMENTARY | Anyone who has an iPod, iPhone, iPad or Android-powered device has likely downloaded and played the app "Draw Something" by now since Mashable is reporting the game passed the 50 million download mark in 50 days. All the mania that surrounded the popular guess-what-I-drew extravaganza is only going to be amplified over the course of the next week or two. The main reason is that a lot more people are going to have access to it.
As the Los Angeles Times reports, "Draw Something" has finally come to the Kindle Fire, which means a lot of tablet users who did not own another device were stuck on the sidelines waiting for their chance to get in the game. InternetRetailer.com reports 6 million of the $199 Android tablets were sold in the fourth quarter of 2011 and the Associated Press is reporting the Kindle Fire was the best-selling item on Amazon for the first quarter this year. If having access to more than 6 million users does not propel the app and the company behind it, Zynga, to new levels than nothing will.
It's a pretty safe bet the mania surrounding the game will get stronger, at least in the short term. The phenomenon got a major shot in the arm with the update released in the middle of April that brought social network interactivity and in-game messages to the app, as reported by SlashGear.
Now that the app has the muscle of yet another popular electronic device behind it, millions of new users will be grabbing their devices and drawing awkward stick figures with arrows point to various items. While apps can be trendy and are often the victim of short bursts in popularity, "Draw Something" has assured itself of the ability to stay relevant for at least another month.
