COMMENTARY | On Halloween, the SyFy Channel and the Travel Channel will be going head to head in an attempt to draw fans of paranormal investigation shows. The Travel Channel will replay the original 2006 pilot/documentary that introduced viewers to the "Ghost Adventures" crew. SyFy will have a five hour investigation starring the "Ghost Hunters" crew along with many stars from other SyFy shows. Which one will be the winner?
"Ghost Adventures"
Fans of the show, like myself, have seen the pilot multiple times in the past. I saw the investigation of Nevada's Old Washoe and Goldfield Hotel when it originally aired on the SciFi Channel five years ago. Even though it has since been renamed "Ghost Adventures: Beginning," it is still essentially the same program. It will be followed by the return investigation from 2011. I am disappointed by the fact that there will not be a live investigation this year.
"Ghost Hunters"
This year's live special will run for five hours instead of the longer hours that we have sometimes seen in the past. They will be investigating Pennhurst State School and Hospital. If you have never seen one of these special investigations, remember that there are times in which nothing is going on. Remember that regular shows are an hour each and have been edited down from hours of boring footage. The team does try, though, to keep things entertaining.
They will have more than enough investigators on hand to keep things spiced up. Jason, Grant, Steve, Dave, Amy, Adam, Brit, Haily and Maddie will be representing the normal team. Barry Fitzgerald, Kris Williams and Joe Chin will be there to represent "Ghost Hunters International." "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files" will be represented by Ben Hansen, Jael De Pardo and Devin Marble. As in past years, Josh Gates (my personal hero) from "Destination Truth" will be hosting. I am thankful that there will not be any WWE wrestlers botching up the investigation this year.
Who Wins?
I have to give the clear win to "Ghost Hunters" this year for their live investigation. I was hoping that the two would go head to head, but it appears that the Travel Channel backed down over the three million viewers that last year's "GH" live investigation had. Hopefully, we can have something more to look forward next year
