Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance filmmaker to write and direct Twisted Metal movie

The latest installment of Twisted Metal arrived on shelves this week, but that wasn’t the only big news to come out of the game franchise. A live-action movie based on the game is in the works, with Crank and Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance co-director Brian Taylor writing the screenplay and getting behind the camera.

According to Deadline, the seven-figure deal will make Twisted Metal Taylor’s first solo project without frequent writing and directing collaborator Mark Neveldine. The movie will follow the events of an underground competition between combatants in heavily weaponized vehicles, fighting to the death. The winner of the competition will receive a wish granted by the mysterious organizer of the event, Calypso.

The Twisted Metal movie will be produced by Avi and Ari Arad, who also produced Ghost Rider.

While details are still scarce about the project, reports indicate that two particular characters from the Twisted Metal universe are definitely in the movie: the evil clown Sweet Tooth and the mask-wearing Doll Face.
