Gibbs: Obama Will Be 'More Energetic' in Next Debate
Disappointed by his performance in the first presidential debate, President Obama will be more energetic in Tuesday’s matchup, according to his campaign.
“Obviously, the president was disappointed in his own performance,” Robert Gibbs, a senior adviser to the Obama campaign, said on CNN’s State of the Union. “He didn't meet his expectations.
“He knew when he walked off that stage and he also knew as he’s watched the tape of that debate that he’s got to be more energetic. I think you’ll see somebody who’s passionate about the choice that our country faces and putting that choice in front of voters,” Gibbs said.
Asked about the administration's handling of the aftermath in Libya, where four Americans were killed in a terrorist attack, Gibbs acknowledged that the administration is responsible for the safety of U.S. diplomatic personnel abroad, but also accused Mitt Romney of politicizing the issue.
"We don't need wing tip cowboys," he said. "We don't need shoot-from-the-hip diplomacy."
Speaking with host Candy Crowley, who will moderate Tuesday’s presidential debate, Gibbs also said, “If you tell me what you're going to ask, I’ll tell you how he’s going to answer.”
Said Crowley, “Oh, I’m so sorry.”
