    Gingrich: Obama Caused ‘Anti-Christian Spring’

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Taking a new tack in challenging President Obama’s foreign policy, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said Saturday that the “grotesque failure” of the president’s approach in the Middle East has resulted in an “anti-Christian spring.”

The former speaker of the House claimed that the number of Christians in Iraq fell from 1.2 million to 500,000 since the American invasion in 2003, and that Christianity is under assault elsewhere in the region.

“This is why the current strategy in the Middle East is such a total grotesque failure,” Gingrich told about 200 people gathered at the Chesterfield Inn. “People say, ‘Oh, isn’t this great, we’re having an Arab spring.’  Well, I don’t know, I think we may in fact be having an anti-Christian spring. I think people should take this pretty soberly.”

Gingrich was referring to the recent domino-effect uprisings that are challenging longtime autocratic regimes in the Middle East, which has become known as the Arab spring. As president, Gingrich said, “I would actively try to defend religious liberty across the planet, including in Egypt and Iraq.”

And Obama was President in 2003?
    • Robert  •  6 mths ago
Desperate comments from a desperate candidate trying to invigorate a lackluster campaign!
    • bill  •  6 mths ago
I'm not a fan of either Gingrich and Obama, but this has been going a long time before Obama took office. I thought Gingrich was smarter than this. If he thinks this is just because of Obama I quess he's not as smart as I thought.

Sounds like a Liberal to me.
      • Sensible Thinker 6 mths ago
Gingrich's always talks "end of the World talk" if you ever noticed. Funny, its as if he never heard of the "2008 Bush Recession and Stock Market Collapse" the "Twin War failures" officially the longest failed wars in United States history, on top of the Republicans failure to protect the homeland on their watch, while Bush was ON VACATION. But go ahead. Blame Obama for Bush's failures. HA!
      • q0w9e8r7 6 mths ago
Apparently THIS is what you talk about when you have a failing campaign, little public support, and no solutions to the domestic problems the country is facing.

LOL @ Gingrich. This Christian lip service is coming from a man who divorced his wife when she was dying of cancer. Explain THAT one to Jesus on Judgement Day.

Desperate words from a loser who paid a firm to create 3 million false twitter followers for his campaign. He can't even get the negative attention of Trump, lol. I almost feel sorry for him, but then I remember what a complete d-bag he is.
    • Bill  •  6 mths ago
The amazing part is not that Gingrich said this but that ALL 200 in the room bought it.
      • John 6 mths ago
And what does that tell you ??
        200 people ?? wow, what a crowd !!
      • Hercules 6 mths ago
        GOP Mentality!
      • William 6 mths ago
I'm glad it was only 200...pitiful numbers if that's all Newt has for support....geez!
    • BASIL  •  6 mths ago
This started with a negative reaction to Bush's invasion of Iraq, and we saw violence after the invasion of Iraq against Christians in Pakistan, too. So you should blame Bush for that, not Obama. He didn't start this. Mr. Bush who said he was a devout Christian did.
      • nyc123 6 mths ago
        Right?!
I don't understand... if his issue is that the number of Iraqi Christians has declined since the invasion of Iraq why didn't you say something in 2003 when the invasion was happening? Oh right, bc one of your own was in office and making that decision to invade?
*sigh* These political parties are ruining us! Idiots, the lot of them!
    • Rmoney  •  6 mths ago
Gingrich is a liar. How would he defend Christians in the Middle East? Notice he offers no solutions and has no proposals. All he does is criticize. As to the Christians lost in Iraq, who is to blame for that? Hint: B-u-s-h.
      • A Yahoo! User 6 mths ago
Not only the Christians, but also Muslims as well as other groups.
      • Steven R 6 mths ago
Bush gave power in Iraq to the same group of people that run Iran.
      • Scott S. 6 mths ago
The massacres of Christians in Egypt have been met with total silence from Obama's white house.

The 2003 invasion of Iraq is now Obama's fault? What a joke...
      • patty lou 6 mths ago
Well, Pastor, If Obam'a adm. is blamin g this mess on Bush. Maybe Obama is at fault in 2003; Look at his voting record.
      • 22curious 6 mths ago
Everything is Obama's fault including the first Great Depression and the bank failures in 1929!
      • nyc123 6 mths ago
        Patty,
You mean his voting record as State Senator in Illinois?? You realize the states didn't get a vote on the war, right? Your comment makes such little sense, I can only ask if you know what day it is.
    • Harry  •  Guaymas, Mexico  •  6 mths ago
What a stupid jackass. 2003 when Bush invaded Iraq Obama was a state senator in Illinois. All kinds of people were killed and left Iraq including Christians and also people who follow John the Baptist and who are not Christians. This dirt bag was married 3 times cheating on his wives everytime while preaching about good Christian family values. Anyone who would listen to this windbag is a SOB like he is.
    • Ugly  •  Houston, United States  •  6 mths ago
I suppose Newt's screwing around on his wife #2 promoted Christian family values?

      Stupid, stupid, stupid....
    • Stephen  •  Hampden, United States  •  6 mths ago
I seem to recall someone other than Obama starting the war in Iraq which was so hard on Iraqi Christians...
    • UnknownPlanet  •  6 mths ago
When you end your current adulterous relationship that you claim is a "marriage", maybe you can preach to the rest of us. Till then, just shut the ef up and go away.

Oh Newt for F sakes, you are such a hypocrite!
    • Blue Ravioli  •  Irvine, United States  •  6 mths ago
Iraq Christian persecution started in reality after the FIRST Gulf War. Bush Sr. went in to Iraq, and once our oil friend, Kuwait, was safe, he got out. That's when the attacks against the Christian Kurds began. Then, his son, GW Bush went back into Iraq (chasing Bin Laden?????) in 2003. Obama is pulling OUT of Iraq this year. US presence has not helped preserve the faith, but I can't blame Obama.

Just when you start thinking that maybe Newt isn't crazy after all, he goes and proves that he is. I guess he just can't help it. It's just Newt being Newt.
    • Kurtayn  •  6 mths ago
This is more of the "Obama is the Antichrist" theme that the religious right is trying to shove down our throats. I for one am getting tired of it. The results of this election are too important this time. Newt, if you can't run based on your own merits, get out of the race.

I thought this war was to spread Democracy, not Christianity. That was tried in the Crusades and failed.
    • Steven R  •  6 mths ago
The Arab spring has happened every year for hundreds of years.Once again Gingrich is showing that he is senile.
