    Gingrich Says Obama 'Declared War on the Catholic Church'

    Newt Gingrich sought to make inroads among religious voters Sunday, accusing President Obama of having “basically declared war on the Catholic Church.”

    Gingrich, who converted to Catholicism himself in 2009 (his third wife, Callista, sings in a Catholic choir), was speaking about the Obama administration decision this week to require church-affiliated  employers to cover birth control drugs in their health plans, regardless of religious beliefs.

    Gingrich, in an appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press, said the decision represented “a radical Obama administration imposing secular rules on religion.”

    He called it “a tremendous infringement of religious liberty” and predicted it would have “very substantial” political fallout.

    “Every time you turn around secular government is closing in on and shrinking the rights of religious America,” Gingrich said.

      "Gingrich Says Obama 'Declared War on the Catholic Church' " - Gingrich will say anything if it gets him press. Non-catholics work for catholic organizations. Where is the law that says it is acceptable to discriminate against them? If you are Catholic and (horrors) your health plan offers birth control, there is no rule that you have to get a script for it. How stupid.

        Religious-based institutions have the constitution on their side. A Jewish hospital that I am familiar with would not allow Christmas decoarations. A Jehovah's Witness hospital, which considers Saturday the Sabbath (because it is) even caused the post office to be closed on Saturday but open on Sunday.

        I think you mean Seventh-day Adventist Hospital, this would probably be Cleburne Texas. Jehovah Witness Organization does not have hospitals.

        The Adventists run fine hospitals––and during my parents' stays there I saw no evidence whatsoever of proselytizing patients or families.

      *I* don't want to use contraceptives because it's against *my* religion.
      and
      I don't want *you* to use contraceptives because it's against *my* religion.

      Telling the Catholic Church how they will use Fed money is not and attack on Religion because they can fund themselves as and alternative.
