This Girl Was Kicked Out of Class for Having Cornrows

Her mother is not happy.

A 13-year-old girl in Britain is the latest student to be removed from class because of her hairstyle. Amanda Sutcliffe was put in "isolation" after she showed up with her hair in cornrows.

Before the teen had her hair done while on vacation with her family in Turkey, Sutcliffe checked to confirm that the hairstyle was not listed as banned under the school's dress code. When she returned to class, the teachers found that the style did violate the code because it was "extreme," reports The Mirror.

The high school's policies section states: "Extreme hairstyles or hair coloring. Haircuts shorter than number 2 are NOT allowed." But, her mom is slamming the school for "unnecessary punishment," after Sutcliffe was punished simply for having numerous braids, instead of just one.

"I couldn't believe the school had got their priorities so wrong. They denied her of her right to an education just because she had plaits in her hair," said her mother.

Sutcliffe removed her braids so that she could return to school.
