Global Enterprise Softphones Market to Reach $217.2 Million by 2017, According to New Report by Global Industry Analysts, Inc.

GIA announces the release of a comprehensive global report on Enterprise Softphones. The global Enterprise Softphones market is projected to register $217.2 million in value and 2.9 million units in volume sales by the year 2017, primarily driven by increasing enterprise mobility and workforce virtualization, and growing pervasiveness of VoIP networks. Growing adoption among small and medium businesses and robust demand from Asia-Pacific also augurs well for the market.

San Jose, California (PRWEB) August 25, 2011

Although not a killer application as yet to rival the use of mobile and desktop phones, softphones have witnessed sizeable interest, especially in the enterprise space. One of the prime factors fingered to drive the adoption of softphones in small, medium and large enterprises is the growing pervasiveness of VoIP. Mushrooming deployments of VoIP networks has and will continue to make enterprise softphones a viable option resulting in the steady migration away from traditional, desk-based telephones. The highest level of adoption is currently in call centers where web-based softphone clients are a ubiquitous feature. The ability to turn a PC and/or a laptop into a telephone, which runs over the Internet offers numerous advantages, such as, elimination of wired hardware requirements, space conservation, easy to set-up, install, and use, superior levels of mobility, and cost effective for long distance international calling and rapid integration into database systems, among others. Additionally, softphones are capable of eliminating costs borne by a company on public telephone network. The diffusion of SIP devices, the progressive decrease in price points, and the continued rise in the overall value proposition of IP softphones in terms of applications and features are some of the factors that encourage market adoption.

Enterprise mobility and workforce virtualization represents the key growth driver for enterprise softphones market. Given the capabilities of enterprise mobility in extending organizations with efficient means to improve overall responsiveness, agility, and flexibility, the concept has truly transformed into a competitive requirement in today’s global marketplace. The concept has become a necessity driven by the need to keep workers in touch with the company on anywhere, anytime basis. Also, mobile worker population is on the rise, which calls for the need to enable such mobile/remote workers to stay in touch with corporate headquarters and carry out functions, even while away from the office. Therefore, a new wave of enterprise mobility has come into shape, with organizations allowing mobile employees to access company’s resources through remote access points. Softphone, in this regard, allows traveling executives, telecommuters, and call-center agents within an organization to access features of corporate phones while working at home and allow mobile phone users with the client software to access telephony features similar to those available at their workplace when away from the office.

Softphones, which until now made its mark in the IT infrastructures of large business is now finding widespread acceptance among small and medium business (SMB) as these companies also seek to increasingly leverage the functional advantages of this communication technology. Therefore, vendors although holding onto their core of larger business customers, are also hot on the heels of smaller business customers, offering specially tailored solutions designed to meet the unique requirements of this customer cluster. Cost benefits make softphone an inherently attractive telephony solution for smaller companies, which represents an advantage that is only further compounded by the growing popularity and adoption of hosted VoIP services. As increased number of SMBs begins to recognize the advantage of IP telephony and as older telephony platforms reach the end of their lifecycle, IP adoption is expected to continue gaining momentum.

Growing deployment of VoIP networks as a result of globalization and deregulation of markets, and improving performance fundamentals of VoIP networks, is helping push up the business case for enterprise softphone. Rising competition in telecommunication markets worldwide is fuelling the deployment of larger VoIP networks with additional capabilities to offer value-added services. Also, convergence of data, video and voice networks, and the commercialization of wide area wireless broadband networks (WiMAX), is driving deployment of VoIP networks. In developed regions like North America, residential VoIP market is witnessing strong growth encouraged by customers’ interest in compelling offers made by service providers. The scenario bodes well for the consumer VoIP systems including consumer softphone market.

As stated by the new market research report on Enterprise Softphones, the US represents the largest regional market. Asia-Pacific is the fastest growing regional market with volume sales and revenue growing at a CAGR of more than 19% and 13%, respectively, over the analysis period.

Major players in the marketplace include Avaya Inc., Broadview Networks Inc., Cisco Systems, Inc., CounterPath Corporation, Mirial, among others.
