GM workers expected to approve new union contract

DETROIT (AP) — Factory workers at General Motors are likely to approve a new four-year contract with the company.

Negotiators for GM and the United Auto Workers union agreed to a tentative contract on Sept. 16. Union members have until Wednesday morning to vote. Most local unions with results posted on their websites have approved the deal.

Most of GM's 48,500 factory workers won't get annual pay raises under the contract. But they'll get $5,000 signing bonuses and profit-sharing checks, along with other payments. GM has also promised to add at least 5,100 jobs.

Entry-level workers at GM will get raises.

The pressure is now on for bargainers to reach contract agreements at Ford and Chrysler.

We earn half of G.M. workers and been told to accept a wage freeze and to pay $2,000 out of pocket for increased health insurance. If G.M. goes broke again please don't come knocking on our doors for another bail out.

Raises for everyone! Where's mine? Oh wait... I won't see that until I skip buying a GM built car because the passed on cost drives me to buy from a foreign competitor.

      1) UAW members have been taking pay cuts for years, while execs have gotten bonuses

      2) GM's president gets a salary of $2.2 million and annual bonuses of $6.3 million, yet many here are complaining about the men and women who earn $20 an hour!

      3) The contract calls for no pay raises, but the potential of $11,500 in bonuses over the next four years: That's less than $3,000 per year. Remember that $6.3 million a year bonus for the company's president?

      4) The contract will have ZERO effect on the company's "break-even point" or on the "break-even point" of their vehicles

      5) The contract WILL save jobs and increase salaries for new-hire to $11.20 per hour. How are these "bad" things?

Only way to turn around the auto industry / economy get rid of the Unions. No one is worth more than $20 per hour.

GM's president gets a salary of $2.2 million, and gets an additional $6.3 million in bonuses... And you're upset about a guy who gets $20 an hour??????

yea they would be crazy not to aprove they will get 5000 to do nothing. What a deal no wonder GM ,Ford AND Chyrstler have all move a lot of their jobs overseas .No wonder we are having such a hard time getting jobs .With the gready unions making it so companies are moving overseas .Who want to pay 50 dollars and hour for labor look at the other car makers i am sure they don't pay the big money that GM pays that's also why they can sell their cars forthousands of dollars cheaper.BY giving union workers so much make the companies raise the prices of their goods. No wonder unions are losing their power who can afford to keep paying them.We need to get them out of the Government also.Look obama in the last stimulas paid 200,000 for every government worker that was hired now they were paid less than 100,000 in wages .So you say what happen to the other 100,000 well that money went to the unions now you know most teachers especially new teachers will make about 50,000 to 70,000 per year so that means the union got between 100,000 to 150,000 per job out of the last stimulas now obama wants to do the same thing again out of that 1/2 trillion doilars he want to spend about 200 billion on hiring Government workers teachers ,cops firefighters.Gues what afterabout 2 years that money runs out guess who will have to continue to pay the 200 billion to keep those government workers along with all the workers hired from first stimulas .We the taxpayers and how much of that will go to the unions well about every dollar we pay in the unions will get .50 to 75 cent of that money the rest will go to the teachers and cops .Now the union will do is use that money to pay people like Richard Tunka i know i misspelled his name but the head of the unions will make 100's millions of dollars a year free health care free retirement plus use 1/2 the other money that doesn't go to the workers to pay for politicians like obama .So they can make more money by hiring more government employees .So yes lets all be so thankfull we have to pay thousands of dollars more for our cars looks like they will raise the prices at least 5000 to pay for all those workers thank you Unions thank you for raising my food bill when i go to a grocery store tank you for raising my taxes to pay for all those politicians that don't want to work for us .

Well, at least GM has 4 years until the Union tries to extort more money from them. That is, if they don't fold before then as a result of inflated labor costs.
