Going to the Sun Road reopens after rock slides

WEST GLACIER, Mont. (AP) — Glacier National Park officials say the Going to the Sun Road has reopened two days after heavy ran triggered a dozen mud and rock slides along the scenic mountain roadway.

Sixteen miles of the road had been closed since Tuesday afternoon, when the slides trapped about 10 vehicles and injured two visitors.

The roadway reopened Thursday afternoon after workers machinery and shovels removed debris from the road, culverts and ditches.

The park service says more bad weather is expected on Friday, with a flash flood watch issued for the park from noon to midnight. Heavy lightning, hail and wind up to 60 mph is expected.
