'Good People' becomes nation's most produced work

NEW YORK (AP) — David Lindsay-Abaire's Tony Award-nominated play "Good People" tops the list of most produced plays nationwide during the 2012-13 season, according to the theater industry's largest trade group.

The Theatre Communications Group revealed on Monday that the Top 10 list also includes Bruce Norris' "Clybourne Park," Matthew Lopez's "The Whipping Man," the musical "Next to Normal" and Katori Hall's "The Mountaintop."

Interestingly, "A Raisin in the Sun," first produced in 1959, also made the list. That's in part because it was produced in conjunction with "Clybourne Park," a play that drew inspiration from "A Raisin in the Sun."

Lindsay-Abaire's other works — including "Rabbit Hole" — have long been among the top produced works, but "Good People" marks his first time atop the list, which was compiled from 415 member theaters. Seventeen theaters will produce "Good People" this season.

The list began in 1994-1995 and omits holiday themed shows and Shakespeare works. The theater group includes the list in its latest edition of American Theatre magazine.

"Good People" takes over last year's top published work from John Logan's "Red," which dropped to No. 6 in this year's list.

Michael Burgess (R-Texas), who believes that abortion should be banned earlier than the Supreme Court says it should because, in part, he knows fetuses feel pain. He knows this because he says he's seen male fetuses begin masturbating in the womb around 15 weeks into a pregnancy.

    • Rick Perry Goes to War Against Connecticut

Rick Perry, the Texas governor and 2012 "oops" presidential candidate, is spending the beginning of this week in Connecticut. Perry, as the governor of Texas, has little on-its-face reason to be in Connecticut. Except, of course, for one: Texas's unemployment rate, which at 6.4 percent in April is significantly lower than the national average, is still not quite ideal. Perry wants to bring jobs to his state. And, as he sees it, some of those jobs could come from Connecticut.
