Google Glass Adds SMS Support for iPhone

Google Glass Now Available To Everyone

iPhone owners who have Google's Glass will soon be able to see their SMS messages on the heads-up display. The Glass team announced on Monday that the iOS change will be rolled out over the next few days.

iPhone owners still won't be able to reply to text messages from Glass due to other continued iOS limitations. To turn on text notifications, go to your iPhone's Bluetooth settings and select "Show Notifications" for your paired Glass.

In addition to the iPhone SMS compatibility, Google also announced a new Calendar Glassware that will let you view, edit and delete appointments from your Glass. The company also said it has a few new goodies coming later this week, which we expect should boost functionality.

Android owners have been able to read their messages since launch. But the change for iPhone owners comes just after an upgrade to Android KitKat that was rolled out last week to Glass, which boosted the device's battery life and dropped the ability to make video calls.

Google opened up sale of the $1,500 Glass to regular Joes for one day earlier this month, but the company isn't saying how many it sold. Along with a recent initiative to let prospective buyers try on the device, these updates indicate the company is gearing up for Glass' anticipated commercial release later this year.
