    Google joins Samsung in patent dispute with Apple

    A new player has entered into what seems like a never-ending patent war between Samsung and Apple. After the United States District Court for Northern California granted Apple an injunction against Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus smartphone, Google has joined its South Korean partner in its quest to defeat the Cupertino-based company, the Korea Times reported. “It’s too early to comment on our game plan [with Google] in the legal battle; but we will do our best to get more royalties from Apple, which has benefited from our technology,” a Samsung insider said. “The fight is becoming more dramatic and the possibility of a truce in the form of a cross-licensing deal, seems to be becoming likely.” Samsung is demanding Apple pay 2.4% of the retail price of iPhones and iPads to use its technology. The iPhone-maker, however, claims the rate is excessive in regards to the fair, reasonable and non-discriminatory (FRAND) licensing guidelines. Apple is also seeking injunctions against Samsung’s products for copying the design of the iPhone and iPad.
