Google may ditch NVIDIA for Qualcomm in Nexus 7 sequel

    Nexus 7 2 Specs SnapdragonNexus 7

Recent reports have suggested that Google (GOOG) is readying a new Nexus 7 tablet that could debut in May. The company is reportedly increasing the pixel resolution of the display to 1920 x 1080, and adding a faster and more power efficient quad-core processor. Unlike the original Nexus 7, however, Google may not partner with NVIDIA (NVDA) to power the 7-inch slate.

Michael McConnell of Pacific Crest believes that Google will instead turn to Qualcomm (QCOM) and its quad-core Snapdragon S4 Pro processor, ZDNet reports. Google is said to be interested in the tighter integration Qualcomm’s processors have with 3G and 4G technology. The analyst noted that a switch to Snapdragon from Tegra could also simplify the supply of the Nexus 7 and essentially lower costs.
