Google’s Nexus 6P flagship phone is now official – here are all the details

Google had not one but two brand new smartphones to show off during its big Nexus event in San Francisco today, and the company just took the wraps off the larger of the two: meet the brand new Nexus 6P. This Huawei-built smartphone is a followup to last year’s Nexus 6, and it’s better in every way imaginable. Of course, that’s not exactly a surprise, since just about everything there is to know about the new Nexus 6P has been revealed by leaks over the past couple of weeks.

But now, the phone is finally official — here all of the important details you need to know.

The Nexus 6P is Google’s flagship phablet for 2015 (and probably the first three quarters of 2016 as well). The handset sports a large 5.7-inch AMOLED display with WQHD resolution. That’s 2560 x 1440 pixels, and it works out to an impressive pixel density of 518 ppi.

Google’s new supersized smartphone is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor, which offers blazing fast speed and 64-bit architecture. The Nexus 6P’s housing is a unibody aluminum design, making it Google’s most premium smartphone ever. Despite all that metal though, it’s still reasonably lightweight at 178 grams. By comparison, Apple’s new iPhone 6s Plus has a smaller 5.5-inch display and it weighs 199 grams.

Other Nexus 6P spec highlights include 3GB of RAM, dual front-facing stereo speakers, a Micro USB Type-C port, a 12.3-megapixel main camera, an 8-megapixel front-facing selfie camera, a massive 3,450 battery and either 16GB, 64GB or 128GB of storage.

But the most impressive thing about the phone is its price: Google’s Nexus 6P will start at just $499.99 off contract, and preorder availability begins today in the Google Play store.
