    Google Product Insights: Nike’s Foamposite shoe, PlayStation Vita drive searches

    The latest edition of Nike's Foamposite series of trainers -- the Foamposite Galaxy -- was one of the top product search terms over the past seven days. PlayStation's newly launched heldheld gaming device the PS Vita was also a popular item. 

    The launch of Nike's new Foamposite Galaxy trainers in the US on Thursday, February 23 led to outbreaks of disorder in some stores in Orlando as shoppers tussled to get their hands on the products. Data from Google Insights shows that the term "nike foamposite galaxy"achieved breakout status, meaning that it achieved an increase in growth of over 5,000 percent.

    Also popular this week was PlayStation's new handheld console the PS Vita, which appeared twice in this week's most popular search terms under "PS Vita" and "PlayStation Vita."

    The "PS Vita" was released by Sony over February 15, 22 and 23, and reports indicate that the company has sold in excess of 1.2 million units to date. The paperback-sized gaming device currently supports around 30 titles including FIFA Football and MotorStorm RC.  

    Other popular product search terms this week included the generic "power drill," "boat shoe" and "jumpsuit."

    The search terms with the most significant growth worldwide, in the category ‘products' over the last seven days, as measured by Google Insights and recorded February 29, were:

    02.   rain boot (+800%)
    03.   power drill (+750%)
    04.   boat shoe (+600%)
    05.   jumpsuit (+350%)
    06.   upright vacuum (+190%)
    07.   ps vita (+100%)
    08.   playstation vita (+90%)

    *Breakout refers to a search term with an increase in growth greater the 5,000 percent.
