GOP candidates want more on illegal immigration

MESA, Ariz. (AP) — The Republican candidates say more must be done to combat illegal immigration.

The topic was a natural for Wednesday night's debate in Mesa, Ariz.

Newt Gingrich says he would devote as many resources as necessary to securing the U.S.'s southern border and that he would build two separate fences at the border to make it more difficult to cross illegally. He also says he'd send thousands more employees of the Homeland Security Department to border areas.

Mitt Romney says he would put more resources into securing the border and support programs that make it more difficult for illegal immigrants to work in the U.S. He says Arizona's approach to illegal immigration is a "model" for the country.

Rick Santorum says he would also beef up efforts to combat illegal immigration.

But we have so much to thank the illegals for-more crime, more diseases, overcrowded schools, etc.
Oh-and new diseases that don't respond to treatments.

It is absolutely disgusting that the usa would have a situation where illegal aliens endanger our national parks. This excuse for a president is impeachable for misfeasanace and malfeasance.

Under the Mexican law, illegal immigration is a felony, punishable by up to two years in prison. Immigrants who are deported and attempt to re-enter can be imprisoned for 10 years. Visa violators can be sentenced to six-year terms. Mexicans who help illegal immigrants are considered criminals.

The law also says Mexico can deport foreigners who are deemed detrimental to “economic or national interests,” violate Mexican law, are not “physically or mentally healthy” or lack the “necessary funds for their sustenance” and for their dependents.

Whatever you do, don't move to mexico illegally!

I lived off and on in various regions of Mexico since 1989, and in the last city, Paco, the best friend of my best friend, was the vice immigration official right under the local "jefe"... Although the points you make are valid, one would be well cautioned to remember that Mexico has many fine laws that are completely ignored, Mexico being systemically a true nation of scofflaws. Nothing is illegal as long as you slip whatever government official that you are forced to deal with a "mordida"(bribe/tip...), and (POOF!!!), end of problem.......

The fact that a vast majority of Americans want this as well virtually assures me that nothing will happen. Some people seem very concerned for some reason about the folks that willingly break this law. It has nothing to do with Mexicans, it's about the law. Saying that enforcing border laws unfairly targets Mexicans is like saying enforcing a fishing license requirement unfairly targets people who happen to be in a boat.

Just what the US needs....to go from a manufacturing economy to a consumer economy to a service economy to a prison economy. More low paying jobs....more prisons built....more taxpayer money going to private corporations who will encourage more laws so that more people will go to prison so that they can make more money.

Newt Gingrich also wants amnesty. A border fence is useless if there's amnesty to be had on the other side!

More needs to be done, like stop the illegal aliens from crossing the Border and send the illegals home. What are the Taxpayers getting for the 60 billion dollar/yr Homeland Security anyway?

we guard North and South Korea's border better than our own, what's wrong with this government of ours? Enforce our laws, and protect our borders!

Oh, wait. I though Newt said a few months ago he wants to have all illegal aliens currently residing in this Country legalized? Talked down on Romney, because he has stated illegal aliens should return to their home Countries and now Newt is discussing a different story?

They all pander to which ever current issues they think the voters want, then do what they want, once they get into office.

Part of that problem is that with the blessings of our government the Mexican representatives are holding conventions across the country where for $200 these criminals can buy legal documents stating that they are here legally and allowed to work here. Many of these criminals had already been here for years! They just had one in Idaho Falls 6 months ago. These criminals were lined up around the block all day long and the police and ICE turned a blind eye. How do I know this? First hand knowledge and I called the police and ICE.

The only thing that will stop illegal immigration is a minefield and fence from coast to coast coupled with holding employers of illegals accountable for their actions. I read of a hospital in New York which was stuck for over four years caring for an illegal Chinese dishwasher dropped of there by his employer because he was having a stroke. The illegal employer benefited from the cheap labor so should pick up the tab instead of the taxpayer.

We need to cut off all taxpayer financed benefits as well, including education.....

How could anyone ever believe that the United States and it's taxpayers are in any way responsible for the employment, education, health and welfare of the citizens of another country?
We are broke and tired of the crime.

It has been estimated that 1 in 10 jobs in this country is occupied by an ILLEGAL. Nobama SUES any local government that tries to enforce the illegal entry laws that he has announced that he will NOT enforce. Even the least desirable countries to live in have tough laws about people being in their country illegally. But the U.S.? The U.S. rewards and encourages them to come here and soak up YOUR tax dollars! Nobama needs to go!

Liars, each one of them. The Republicans employ illegals in companies such as Walmart. I don't believe they want to curb illegal immigration since they profit from it. To get votes, they are telling Americans what they want to hear.

The way to stop the invasion of our country by illegal, foreign criminals is to remove the incentives that bring them here in the first place:

      1) No jobs
      2) No education
      3) No health care
      4) No taxpayer financed benefits
      5) No drivers licenses
      6) No housing

Take away these incentives and they will stop coming and those already here will have no
      choice but to leave.

IMPRISON ANYONE WHO HIRES THEM no fines, warnings ,lets spend the money we waste on illegals and build more prisons for the people who hire them and the problem will stop instantly pass laws that these lawyers cant defend an illegal .i wish i had the money to go to washington and could get 2 hours infront of congress ,senate, and the president to speak my mind and tell them what they dont know or dont want to know ,alot of this is an easy fix ,first thing they need to learn is the definition of the word illegal
