GOP's Cain says win in Fla. straw poll not a fluke

WASHINGTON (AP) — Businessman Herman Cain says his victory in the Florida Republican straw poll was authentic and wasn't a statement by voters against Texas Gov. Rick Perry.

Cain tells NBC's "Today" show the weekend test balloting was "not a protest vote."

Cain says his performance shows "the voice of the people is more powerful than the voice of the media."

He won roughly 37 percent of the vote, compared to 15 percent for Perry and 14 percent for former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney.

Cain also says he doubts Perry's poor showing was the result of his uneven performance earlier in the week in the Orlando candidate debate.

Cain says the straw poll illustrates that "people are listening to the message and not just, with all due respect, to the media."

CAIN has a real plan and actually IS a self-made man whos background and associations CAN be traced. He cares about this country and our future as Americans. What other candidate on EITHER side of the aisle can truly say that? Go get em Herminator!!!

        Herminator? That is so gay....

Where's Cain's Original Long Form Birth Certificate? Where has he attended church? Who were the ministers/pastors/priests? What were their messages? It's all got to be documented ... because HE'S BLACK! REMEMBER?

"Businessman" is the operative word describing Herman Cain.
That's why America needs his skill to put America back on the track.
America is, and has always been, a business. Unforgivably the past White House occupations used the "Buy High and Sell Low" model to run Americas business.
Lately we have had a kid play acting "president" and living a fairy tail life he undoubtedly promised his family ---using the profit of his bosses. ( US TAX PAYERS)
Blaming anything or anyone for his miserable performance.
Herman Cain "The Businessman" can restore "Common Sense" to the Oval Office.
He can hire a team of businessmen and replace the crew of asshats currently aboard the USS ObamaNation and then scuttle it.
Florida got this one right. Americans should as well.
Herman Cain in 2012 equals better business for Americans.

That's right, America is a business and its citizen a commodity.
      • MontanaBGreen 8 mths ago
So--- Francois what is your point?
Any business needs product and customers.
We are both. Have been, are now, and will always be. Get use to it.
Americans use to build stuff to market and sell to each other.
On a smaller scale we still do.
On the larger scale we buy stuff built over seas from companies forced out of America by Union greed, insane gov regulations, and goofy tax codes that even most IRS agents can't explain correctly.
Perhaps a business man like Herman Cain can put the brakes on some of that insanity.
America has nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting some "Common Sense" in the bully pulpit.

Frannie you say it like it is a bad thing. You go to work assuming you have a job so you can earn a pay check and the company can make a few bucks off the work you produce. I you are not going to work for free and your employer is not going to open a position just to have the joy of having employees around to fill up their day. With that if you do a good job they may give you a raise assuming your company is decent to work for. If your department does well your manager may get a bonus assuming again they are a decent company because they want to keep you and your manager around so you can make them more money.

Yet government works exactly the other way they do not make money they spend money and if they spend all they were given then they can have more the next budget year and as long as you do not quit your government job you get a raise next year oh yes and let's not forget you get a government retirement too full retirements have broken every industry out there steel auto textile and so on yet the good old government say hey we can pay a retirement for ya.

if we do not start to run like a business we are going to fail like one

Stop the name calling, stop the blame, point the finger plainly at....the mirror. Political idealism is useless. Logic is far better. No one party is right. Only a collective mindset can change things. First things first: research your candidate. Don't vote for popularity, because that gets us into trouble. Vote logically, after taking the time to research. Read, please! Google "For Whom The Vote Tallies."

Excellent advice, but you're asking too much of the millions of under-educated, over-indulged Americans who are now adults if you want them to read something longer than a tweet.

If we voted logically, Owebama would never have been elected.
      • geronimo 8 mths ago
It's hard to fool under-educated people. Thats why we vote for democrats.

Raise Cain in 2012! "It's going to take a dark horse"
    • SanJuanKid  •  8 mths ago
I'd like to add that Perry, on the other hand, falls apart quickly under the lights, cameras, and questioning. Very disappointing.
    • peterpalacios  •  8 mths ago
I lean democratically (in terms of party), but I really enjoy listening to Cain and Ron Paul. Why? Because they do the unpopolar thing of revealing their ideas during the campaign. They put out content.

      CAIN is more than "ABLE"
      • C 8 mths ago
Is that supposed to be clever? Cain was the bad guy in the Bible BTW.
      • savedbygrace 8 mths ago
I think it was pretty cleaver. Cain was the bad guys first name, not his last name. In this case, Cain is his last name.

The media is trying to decide the next election, by pushing Perry & Romney, the two establishment (Wall Street) candidates.
      • A Yahoo! User 8 mths ago
But we all know that Ron Paul is the only guy left in DC thats looking out for yours and my best interests.
      • Ilona 8 mths ago
I'm glad people picked someone other than Romney or Perry, However the fact that the NBC today show is putting him on air makes me real suspicious, where was Ron Paul when he won the vote in California did they have him on any shows (no) did they even mention that he won (no). Something fishy?
      • Google David Icke 8 mths ago
Because the media is absolutely TERRIFIED of Ron Paul winning. They know he would clean house.
    • Lisa  •  8 mths ago
Herman Cain won the straw poll after laying out his basic philosophy in a fifteen-minute speech on Saturday. He wants to reform the tax code, he says, but IT WILL BE REVENUE NEUTRAL. That is a direct quote. This is D.C. Speak for "We will never cut taxes; tax revenues must never, ever, be reduced by any "tax reform."

On top of that, Cain insisted that, unlike others in D.C., he wants to INCREASE military spending even more than Obama has. So, he wants to guarantee that government spending will be even higher than it is now during the Obama regime. .
    • Romney equals Obama  •  8 mths ago
I never realized how corrup the US press was until I saw how they refuse to cover Ron Paul at all - much less his many victories.

And right now they are refusing to cover the "Occupy Wall Street" thing that is going on in New York City for 10 days - hundreds of arrests of protest marchers - clashes with police - they are now forcibly occupying a park called Libery Plaza.

Yet not a mention in the press.

We have the same sort of press that N. Korea and the USSR had - the hidden powers telll you what you can see and consider.

I would have to agree that I am more interested in learning about Cain after watching his performance in the Florida debate. He actually had answers that went beyond his business experience, and he did some explaining as to what his 999 plan is all about. Johnson has a decent tax proposal too, so Cain has to get out there on other key issues now. Definately getting more attention since Thursday.
    • Michael  •  8 mths ago
Former Federal Reserve Chairman Cain with his Triple Tax would make a good puppet for the banking cartel. You want to get fooled again, America?
    • ChristopherD  •  8 mths ago
I saw Herman Cain at the Florida straw poll/ Pres5 event and he is full of real solutions and a powerful speaker. We need him and alot of good conservatives in the Senate and House to help him fix this economic problem.

      The media deserves no respect.

      A question to the Perry-ites.
How can Perry have an ounce of credibility left after his rebuttal to Michele Bachmann was proven to be a lie... the thing about a woman with cancer lobbied him to give Texas tweens the HPV vaccine?
    • Mebane  •  8 mths ago
Herman Cain is doing a service to the country just by being in the race. Look what his presence is accomplishing:

      1. He is showing you don't have to be a professional politician to get votes.
      2. When you actually have a plan, and aren't afraid to voice it, people appreciate the honesty and integrity of presenting it whether they agree with it or not.
      3. When you speak your true feelings, whether everyone agrees with you or not, you are asking people to vote for you based upon what you believe rather than what you think people want to hear.
      4. Despite media liberal bias against conservatives, if you present an honest message voters will respond to to you in preference to the candidates the media is pushing.
      5. His presence as an intelligent black conservative is driving the ignorant, racist liberals crazy.

If only more people running not only for President but for Congress, State and local office would do the same maybe we could restore a little competence and honesty to government.

it is refreshing to a canadate that is not a professional polition speak the truth he is becoming a very viable canadate and it would be nice for a change and i hope he becomes the next pres

Not a supporter but happy to see this - maybe it will generate some fairer coverage for at least him. Sick of media coverage that mentions only Romney, Perry, and Bachmann at the exclusion of all the others - as a result media is choosing the candidate to win - a real disservice to the people.
