Gotham is back on Channel 5 and there’s been some big changes on and off screen.

Co-stars Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin are now a couple and expecting a baby, but the heavily pregnant star says her baby news hasn’t affected the scripts for season two that much.

“We’re not necessarily hiding anything. It’s complicated to explain,” said the 36-year-old actress, who plays Dr. Leslie Thompkins

“You’d have to see the story. There is a plan for this season and me getting pregnant was not something that has affected what we’re doing on the show.”

Morena is no stranger to concealing a baby bump on set, as she was previously pregnant while shooting the third season of Homeland.

After getting off to an impressive start in season one, the Batman origin story, which chronicles a young Bruce Wayne and Detective Jim Gordon, returns with the tagline, ‘Rise of the Villains’.

Viewers will see The Penguin return, but also familiar faces from the comic books including Mr. Freeze and Two-Face.

Former O.C. star Ben, who plays Jim Gordon, says it’s possible for the series to serve as a launchpad for a new Batman series.

“I think what any origin story allows you to do is to reset the entire franchise or mythology or whatever you want to call it. You have to do it correctly. You have to work out all the kinks and that’s certainly what one of things we’ve done between season one and season two.

“It does provide you with an array of possibilities you can follow. Say in three or four years from now, you can imagine how rich the characters will be at that point, then one of those characters could have their own show and bring in all of the other characters as appearances.”

Gotham Season 2 starts tonight at 10pm on Channel 5
