Grand Canyon banning plastic water bottles sales

most all of the legislation imposed on us by local, state and fed gov'ts is because people are lazy, stupid, ignorant, irresponsible or incompetent. by people, i mean: the public in general, business interests and yes, gov't officials themselves. lawmaking is essentially a compensative response to the issues, gov't is almost always behind the curve in dealing with most issues. every one of us at times in our life, wants gov't to do something about something. even the most conservative, small-gov't advocates have ideas about what the gov't should do that it isn't doing, it's all a matter of what is most important to the individual.

I find it so ironic how so many go to the effort of seeing the beauty of our parks, forests and wildernesses, then leave their garbage on the ground. I'm a strong advocate of taking out what I bring in. Keep America beautiful!

Awesome! Those infernal things are everywhere... plus bottled water is a ripoff. Selling what you can get next to free!

We were at the Grand Canyon last year and I did not see a lot of trash on the ground. It seemed like people appreciated the beauty enough that they were carrying out their trash or using receptacles for it. The bigger problem is people suffering from the heat and dehydration, which the lack of water (in plastic bottles) will only make worse. Besides, they must make a TON of money off those sales.

plastic beverage containers-and the idea that bottled water is somehow better/healthier than ordinary tap water-are two of the stupidest/most effective cons sold to american consumers.

Clean up after yourself is all you have to do. Most people think that is what someone else is getting paid to do

Smart move. You should "pack out what you pack in". People can go back to filling their own water bottles or Camelback.

Ok, tourists, just remember to buy your water bottles in Page, Flagstaff, or Williams, AZ, before you get to the park. A LOT cheaper, too.

Is there anything more pathetic than adults walking around, sucking on their ba-ba? Try walking to the water fountain.

How many people have to be treated for dehydration there and they want to make it harder to access water? Hey folks, plastic is recyclable! I seriously don't get the rationalization here. Hope they have a contingency plan when someone sues because they couldn't buy a bottle of water and then got dehydrated and had to have medical care due to the canyon's environmental wacko rules. I've been to the GC and it's awesome but its also frigging hot and I was very glad there was water to be had....oh, and yes, I did put the used container in one of the very many recycle bins.

Plastic soda bottles are OK, it's just the healthy choices the government wants eliminated????????

It never ceases to amaze me where even an articl like this about keeping one of the world's finest natural wonders clean can attract the knuckledraggers of the country to express their ignorance and contempt of these God given places.
