Greece's new debt plan; Yellen's speech; Ford's shift abroad

Stocks (^GSPC) getting a pop today on word the Greek government's new proposal to deal with its debt crisis may be acceptable to creditors and keep the country in the Eurozone.

But Yahoo Finance Columnist Rick Newman says hold on...haven't we heard this before? "If there's any good news for people who have been watching this over and over and over for the past five years is that we really are close to an actual deadline here," he notes. "And what's driving this is Greek banks are running out of money. They are in dire straits and if there is no breakthrough, next week is when those Greek banks could finally implode."

Costco gets an upgrade

Here are some of the stocks the Yahoo Finance team will be watching for you today.

Costco (COST) Shares are heading higher in the premarket on an analyst upgrade.  Oppenheimer is raising the stock of the biggest warehouse retailer to "outperform" from "perform" with a price target of $160. Shares of Costco are down slightly this year as of yesterday's close.

The Gap (GPS) The hard-pressed clothing retailer says June sales at stores open at least a year fell 1%, in part because of shipment delays caused by the West Coast port strike.  Sales at its namesake stores sunk 5%. However, they were up 1% at both its Old Navy and Banana Republic outlets.

Facebook (FB) Shares are gaining this morning.  We're getting more details on the social media company's reported plans to provide music videos of stars such as Taylor Swift to users.  The New York Times says Facebook has held preliminary talks with major record companies...and it's offering better revenue-sharing deals than Google's (GOOGL) You Tube.  The paper says Facebook declined to comment.

Comcast (CMCSA) The new 3-D animated film "Minions" by its Universal Pictures unit is opening in theaters today.  The company is putting on one of its biggest marketing campaigns ever to promote the spinoff of the "Despicable Me" franchise.  It hopes to make "Minions" only the 3rd animated movie to top a billion dollars in box office sales--  along with Disney's (DIS) "Frozen" and "Toy Story 3."

Ford moves small car production out of Detroit

Ford (F) says it plans to move production of its smaller Focus and C-Max cars away from its Michigan assembly plant by 2018. The United Auto Workers Union said they were told that Ford will move the work outside of the U.S.

Samsung is reportedly pushing up the launch of its new Galaxy note phone to mid-August. The Wall Street Journal reports that Samsung is releasing the phone early in order to better compete with Apple's (AAPL) expected iPhone revamp in September.
