Greek anarchist group claims police parcel bomb

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — A Greek militant anarchist group has claimed responsibility for sending a parcel bomb to a regional police station, which was intercepted and destroyed without causing injuries or damage.

In a posting on an anarchist website, Conspiracy Nuclei of Fire said it targeted the Itea police station in central Greece because an Albanian convict fatally beaten in a Greek prison had allegedly been tortured there.

The group has attacked symbols of authority and wealth in recent years, including a parcel bomb campaign in 2010. One reached the mailroom of German Chancellor Angela Merkel's Berlin office.

The Itea attack used explosives hidden in a religious book — a ploy the group has used before.

Friday's posting deplored the failure of the attack and said "much will change" in the group's future methodology.
