No deal reached for Greek coalition government; talks to continue Monday

ATHENS, Greece (AP) -- Critical talks to form a governing coalition in crisis-struck Greece have foundered once more. The head of a small left-wing party that is in a kingmaker position says no deal has been reached.

Democratic Left leader Fotis Kouvelis said Sunday the country's president, who brokered talks in a last-ditch effort to break a deadlock, told him there was no possibility so far of forming a broad coalition government.

State television said President Karolos Papoulias would re-convene a meeting Monday with Kouvelis and the heads of the parties that came in the top three spots in last week's elections.

The elections gave no party enough votes to form a government, plunging the country into political uncertainty.
