    Green agenda: lights go out around the globe for Earth Hour

    On March 31 at 8 pm local time, lights around the world will be turned off for 60 minutes in support of the annual event Earth Hour, which aims to raise awareness of climate change. Following Earth Hour some of the latest designs in the field of electric and hybrid vehicles will be on display in New York.

    Earth Hour is an annual, international event organized by the WWF to raise awareness of climate change. In honor of Earth Hour businesses, individuals and governments will dim the lights, including those on some of the world's most famous monuments, for 60 minutes. Numerous individual, public, events are also hosted in the 135 countries taking part. Earth Hour is preceded by World Water Day (March 22) and followed by Earth Day (April 22).

    The final major auto show of the North American season, this event is a chance for the world's automakers to push out major debuts for the market that weren't quite ready in time for Detroit. The exhibition will showcase a number of electric and hybrid vehicles which visitors will be given the chance to test drive.

    Earth Day is an international day of action designed to promote awareness of the Earth's climate and natural environment. Earth Day first began in 1970 in San Francisco and has been held every year since, growing into an international event with over 175 countries now taking part. The event encourages people to commit to ‘an act of green' as part of its ‘Billion Acts of Green Campaign' and numerous events are held in celebration of Earth Day around the world. The event is preceded by the WWF-organized event Earth Hour on March 31 which is designed to raise awareness of climate change.

    Grand Designs Live is a consumer show based around the UK TV series of the same name. The show focuses on consumer applicable household goods and interior designs. Two of the highlights of this year's event are the ‘Sustainable Building Techniques Area'  -- which showcases a combination of traditional -- and modern eco friendly construction methods and ‘EcoVelocity'.  Now in its second year, EcoVelocity brings together some of the latest low carbon and electric vehicles and gives interested motorists a chance to have their questions answered by an expert.
