Greninja Amiibo Sells Out in Under an Hour

The Greninja Amiibo toy went on sale earlier today, April 3, and sold out almost immediately. Reports on games forum NeoGAF claim that the toy--part of Nintendo's Amiibo Wave 4--sold out in just 30 minutes.

Greninja, from the Pokemon universe, was available exclusively at Toys 'R Us. The retailer's product page for the toy currently lists it as completely sold out with no information as to when (or if) stock will be replenished.

Meanwhile, the new Jigglypuff Amiibo--which was available only through Target--has also sold out. According to NeoGAF, the toy sold out in less than 10 minutes. You can check here to see if the Jigglypuff Amiibo is available at a store near you, but I wouldn't count on it.

Yesterday, GameStop opened preorders for the new Ness Amiibo, and those promptly sold out, too. Not only that, but demand was so strong that GameStop's website collapsed during the peak buying period.

Amiibo Wave 4 toys (see all of them below) officially go on sale starting May 29.

As of February, Nintendo had sold more than 5.7 million Amiibo toys. By comparison, Call of Duty publisher Activision has sold in excess of 240 million Skylanders toys so far, though of course this franchise was the first on the scene while Amiibo is just getting started.
