Ground Floor Partners, a Chicago management consulting firm specializing in market research, analysis and planning for small and middle market firms, was recently selected by the Foundation for the Education and the Rebirth of Haiti, Inc. (FERHA), a 501 (c ) 3 non-profit, to help develop a long term strategic plan for the organization.

FERHA also differs in scope. Rather than delivering services and supplies to hundreds of thousands of people, FERHA works with one community at a time, emphasizing environmental and cultural sustainability, individual empowerment, and rebuilding previously successful local Haitian traditions. For example, over the past 40-50 years as Haiti has received more foreign aid, the Haitian people have moved away from their roots. Land has been deforested by harvesting trees for charcoal, and local agricultural traditions have been replaced by unsustainable farming practices with non-native species.
According to Dr. M.E. Nancy Ferailleur, “Haiti has a long history of tragedy and devastation. January 12, 2010 brought us to an all-time low. It felt like the entire country was paralyzed, not knowing how to respond, or even how to deal with the situation. It was truly sad and this experience gave us a whole new perspective on the plight of the people. We then realized that true change would only come by tackling the very root of the problem. Rebuilding the country is what’s needed on the surface. Education is the key that will lead Haiti’s children to the road of prosperity and success. Our goal is to focus on the development of sustainable projects one community at a time, to help provide them with long-term solutions to the many problems they face. These projects will bring programs in education, civics instruction, health services and agriculture to each community serviced.” Dr. Ferailleur, one of the organization’s founders, experienced the quake and saw firsthand the devastation it caused. She has been working on the ground since.
