Groundbreaking planned for federally funded $6.3 million regional transit centre in Troy
TROY, Mich. - Groundbreaking is planned this week for a federally funded $6.3 million regional transit centre in the Detroit suburb of Troy.
The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News report a ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday morning. The update on the scaled-down project follows years of debate on the project, which was opposed by former Mayor Janice Daniels. The tea party favourite was recalled in the Nov. 6 election.
Troy City Council had rejected a transit centre with $8.5 million in federal funding, but later approved the revised project.
The centre will provide access to new high-speed Amtrak passenger service and transfer points to bus service, taxis and other transit options.
The centre is expected to open next year.
