Group files war-crimes complaint against Calderon

MEXICO CITY (AP) — Mexican activists lodged a war-crimes complaint Friday against President Felipe Calderon at the International Criminal Court, claiming his offensive against drug cartels has involved about 470 cases of human rights violations by the army or police.

Netzai Sandoval, a lawyer for the coalition behind the complaint, said Mexican drug lords have also committed crimes against humanity during the conflict, which has cost 35,000 to 40,000 lives since late 2006.

The complaint filed Friday at the court in the Netherlands also names Sinaloa cartel leader Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman.

Calderon's administration has denied the accusations, saying it's an elected, democratic government fighting criminals and has established mechanisms to protect human rights.

On Friday, Mexico's Interior Department issued a statement saying "the public safety policy that has been implemented by no means constitutes an international crime." It said the government's actions "are aimed at stopping criminal organizations and protecting all citizens."

"The Mexican government is not at war, and there is no generalized or systematic attack against civilians, nor any government policy in that direction," the statement said.

They complain about Calderon??? What about the thousands of people brutally murdered and mutilated by the cartels?
I think this group is FOS.
      • More Betta 6 mths ago
FOS is even being modest in regards to these groups filing such a petition against its president. Bottom line is I guess they are content running through the streets reafirming to themselves, 'VIVA MEXICO' while their country sinks even deeper into the human cesspool known as Mexico. Be done with it start shooting Mexcrements crossing our borders period. As General Giap once was quoted as sayin in regards to French and American Soldiers ' Shoot enough of them, they will begin to stop sending more ' well newsflash, make that crossing of Mexcrements coming illegaly into this country more hazardous the ever and guarantee, they will stop coming. Ironically, not a whole hell of a lot of American citizens crossing illegally into Mexico, to funny that

@morebeta, sounds like you have a pretty "f" up mentality like not to much different than these cartels, there are people here in our great country that do some pretty messed up stuff, should that be a representation of who we are as a society?,

Oh yea, get the guys who is after all the bandits, mass murders, criminals, drug and human trafficers. Yea, it is better to defend the rights of the creaters of choas and mayhem over law and order. The mexicans have no moral, ethical or worthwhile values, nor content of honorable character. Let the nation be ruled by drug gangs for it is truly the mexican way of life

They are not activists. They are emplyees of the drug cartel. They admit that the drug lords will sometimes do wrong but there are no charges against them. The drug cartels are at war with the Mexican government and the Mexican people and the American government and the American people but they lie about that. The courts side with the criminals.

I thought caulderone had declared " war on drug cartels" ?? I also thought that was how he could use the mexican military on national lands?? caulderone standing along side obama also "declared" the cartel "problem" was tiny and just in limited areas next to the border and MOST of mexico was completely safe ..... that it was U.S. Citizen's buying grenades and rockets at their local walmarts and bringing across the border to sell to the cartel's as the main cause of violence in mexico ??? With obama standing next to him nodding, smiling and waving ????

George Bush Sr. when he ran the CIA encouraged drugs smuggling. He was implicated in helping Noriega smuggle cocaine. The CIA finances its budget but selling guns and protection to the Mexican drug lords. Obama is just waking up to the Republican party’s support of drug dealing. Drug dealing is a business and according to the Republicans government should never stop or regulate business.

I don't know what fantasy book you got your facts from but you should at least go to the public library and do some more research! You obviously don't know the first thing about what you are talking about. Why do't you go back and believe some more lies that the Obama regime seems to like to spout off about! At least you both have something in common.

The CIA’s involvement with drug trafficking is public knowledge and that Bush Sr was head of the CIA under Gerald Ford is also public knowledge. Anyone can look up CIA drug trafficking - on Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. Typical of liberals - defending the drug cartel's UNSPEAKABLE abuses of human rights and trying to cause problems for a president who has had the courage to try to stop their reign of terror. On the contrary, it is time for both the Mexican and US military to fight a REAL war against these scourges of humanity. In fact, I'd say the drug lords in Mexico have forfeited their human rights, and the only right they have left is the right to pay for their crimes against humanity.

Calderon and the Cartel are partners in this dictator style control of Mexico and the drug smuggling.

With 50+million illegal Mexican aliens in the U.S. which technically constitutes an invasion force, why has'nt the U.S. declared war on Mexico and brought Calderone up on charges related to the murder mayhem and death his illegal countrymen have caused in our country????!!!!!! I am an American taxpayer and a Vetrean of the U.S.Army and i want to know why the obvious silent sneaky war that Mexico has declared on us has not been answered with the obvious reprisal of deadly force that it so rightfully deserves.!!!! No Oblunderer in 2012 and vote no to all hipanic related issues,if our government refuses to protect us and our way of life, then we the people need to do it at the polls this coming election.!!!! If that does'nt work then REVOLUTION is right around the corner(plan B).!!!!!

So, why don't we hear what the complaints are? It's like the story is setting the activists up to be the bad guys, by not being specific about their complaints. I believe that is called propaganda.

What next a call for a "humane war zone"? With today's modern #$%$ the Allies would have been crushed by the Axis Powers if they had to fight under "International Law" which only castrates yourself from fighting your foes!

Mexican drug lords have also committed crimes against humanity. really? and we are supposed to be surprised by this?
    • yahoo user  •  6 mths ago
There are almost no humans in Mexico so the their rights can not be violated
