A guide to recovering deleted files from iCloud

Losing data in the cloud is a tragically hopeless feeling.

Although Apple’s iCloud service is incredibly convenient for accessing files between different devices without having to manually move them around, we’ve all heard the horror stories of files being inexplicably lost or accidentally deleted. Thankfully, Apple knows that we all make mistakes, so there’s a way to get the data back.

On Wednesday, TechRepublic published a short guide explaining how to recover deleted files, contacts or calendars from iCloud, a feature that Apple added to its service just a few short months ago.

First off, in order to see the deleted files, simply head to iCloud.com, sign in to your account with your Apple ID, click on Settings and scroll down the menu until you see the Advanced tab.

Within that tab you should see a link that reads “Restore Files.” Click it and a new window will open up, showing you every file that you’ve deleted in the past month. If you see any files in this list that you want to keep, just select the checkbox next to the item and click “Restore File.”

There are separate tabs for restoring contacts and restoring calendars, but they work virtually the same way. The only real difference is that rather than restoring an individual contact or scheduled meeting, you will actually restore the entire archived contact list or the entire calendar as it appeared at a previous date.
