Guilty plea from beauty queen charged in Vancouver riot postponed
VANCOUVER - An expected guilty plea from a former beauty queen charged after Vancouver's 2011 Stanley Cup riot has been postponed until next week.
Sophie Laboissonniere, who won Miss Congeniality in a local beauty pageant, was charged with participating in a riot and break-and-enter.
Laboissonniere, who was 20 at the time of the riot on June 15, 2011, was expected to plead guilty in provincial court, but the case was adjourned until Monday afternoon.
Laboissonniere was not in court, though her lawyer, David Baker, says he had planned on entering the plea on her behalf and her absence was not the reason for the adjournment.
The Richmond resident was among the first batch of people charged in the riot, which broke out after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup final to the Boston Bruins.
To date, 173 people have been formally charged and Crown prosecutors are considering charges against 142 others.
