Gwyneth Paltrow Can Stop by 'Glee' Any Time She Wants

Academy Award winning cookbook author Gwyneth Paltrow concluded her two episode guest stint on Glee last night, but not before winning the hearts, minds, and grudging respect of the show's difficult-to-please fanbase. (Which might be why she's already rumored to be in talks to return to the show for the season finale later this spring.) One issue that is dividing people this morning: Paltrow's cover of Adele's 'Turning Tables'. Here it is.

TV Squad's Joel Keller delivered an all-out rave. "[The performance] was full of passion and -- dare I say it? -- soul," raved . "It at least had some cajones to it, something I've never been able to say about, for instance, every single song the Warblers have ever done." Black Book's Rosie Gray wasn't so sure."It's not that Gwynnie butchers it," she wrote, "it's just that it’s kind of unfortunate that she had to inject so much Country Strong-style twang into a song that doesn’t call for it."

The A.V. Club Myles McNutt felt like it perfectly captured the "occasional awkwardness of Paltrow's presence on the show" She was game to perform, but "Paltrow's singing is only passable," despite her arguments to the contrary, which left her version open to "an unfair comparison to Adele's original."
