'Halo 4' marks November 6 as launch date

Master Chief will be back in the limelight come November 6, the Halo 4 launch date that marks his return as main character for the sci-fi shooter franchise.

The previous three entries to the series, Halo Wars, Halo 3: ODST and Halo Reach did not feature the franchise's iconic Master Chief as protagonist, not counting 2011's remake of series starter Halo: Combat Evolved.

Animation group Rooster Teeth produced special episodes of its long-running Halo satire "Red vs Blue" to commemorate the announcement, one of which sees a futuristic soldier attempt to take a sick day six months in advance, while in the other the squad Sergeant comes up with a failsafe way of remembering Halo 4's launch date.

The early November release places Halo 4's Xbox 360 debut one week after Assassin's Creed III, which is set in revolutionary America, and two after Medal of Honor: Warfighter, a modern-day action game.

Should Call of Duty's unannounced 2012 outing follow tradition, its own worldwide launch would take place on November 6 as well -- and Halo publisher Microsoft has avoided a direct confrontation with Activision's annual giant, up until now at least.
