    Hands-on With the Nike+ FuelBand [PICS]

    Nike unveiled the Nike+ FuelBand Thursday, a new wristband that aims to track all physical activities and provide a common metric for tracking performance across sports.

    I had an opportunity to test out the device for several hours, taking it from Nike’s press conference in New York City to a tennis training session and a lunch.

    The device performed as promised – after syncing with an iPod touch after each stop, the Nike+ FuelBand app charted my progress and allowed me to share it on Twitter and Facebook (although those features won’t work in full until the device goes live next month).

    Not surprisingly, it charted a huge spike in activity during the tennis session (I earned about 500 fuel points in 45 minutes), was fairly flat during a bus ride between locations, and picked up slightly while casually walking around.

    The FuelBand itself features only one button, which lets you sync with the iPod touch or iPhone and cycle through the metrics that it tracks: Fuel score, calories burned, steps and the time. It comes in three sizes and fit to my wrist snug; it’s also waterproof,which means it’ll work for swimming (or take a post-workout shower without removing it).
