Harbor Freight expanding South Carolina facility

200 new jobs part of planned expansion at Harbor Freight distribution center in South Carolina

DILLON, S.C. (AP) -- Tool retailer Harbor Freight Tools USA Inc. is planning to create 200 new jobs with the expansion of its distribution center in South Carolina's Dillon County.

South Carolina officials announced Thursday that Harbor Freight would invest about $75 million in the project.

Officials say Harbor Freight plans to add about 1 million square feet of space to its existing facility in Dillon. The original distribution center was built in 2001, and the company expects to complete the expansion by early next year.

Hiring for the new jobs starts in October. Dillon County had one of the highest unemployment rates in South Carolina in February, at 13.9 percent.
