‘Get Hard’ Red Band Trailer: Kevin Hart & Will Ferrell In ‘Hood High Jinks

Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart are two of the biggest comedy draws going at the box office these days — so why not team them for a sort of anti-buddy comedy? Warner Bros figured that out too, and now comes Get Hard, about a newly minted white-collar criminal (Ferrell) who hires Hart’s Darrell Lewis to prep him for his stint in San Quentin — even though Darnell doesn’t know the first thing about it. It kind of looks like The Wedding Ringer conning Ron Burgundy, but at least in this very much red-band trailer that idea has potential — though four credited writers (story and screenplay by Jay Martel and Ian Roberts, with help on story by Adam McKay and on the script by director Etan Cohen, who has cred in this arena having written Tropic Thunder) sometimes gives pause.

Warner Bros releases this one wide March 27 but not before its world premiere March 16 at SXSW. That’s the place Universal premiered its R-rated comedy Neighbors last year to such a fabulous result — it launched that pic into a $268.2 million worldwide gross and a sequel.
