ATLANTA (AP) — Haverty Furniture Cos. said Thursday that second-quarter sales at stores open at least a year rose 5.6 percent, boosted by an uptick in business in the second half of the period.
Same-store sales is a key measure of a retailer's health, because it excludes sales at stores that opened or closed during the year.
The Atlanta-based company said total sales for the quarter rose 5.9 percent to $151.5 million.
For the first six months of the year, Haverty's same-store sales increased 5.7 percent, while total sales increased 6 percent to $315.1 million.
Haverty said it was encouraged by the pickup in sales in the latter half of the quarter. Upholstery continued to be the strongest product category. Bedroom furniture sales also increased , the company said.
Haverty shares fell 1 cent to close at $11.99.
