If Romney is clueless, what the heck is Obo???

Just giving a government dept or agency more money does not make them stronger or more efficient.

Carl Levin is not a military man just a political hack and a dogmatic democrat. He will say whatever it takes to reelect Obama no matter what it does to this country.

We cannot keep up this spending! The Military budget was inflated because of Iraq and Afganistan but it needs to come into reality, so does a lot of services and federal depts.

Let's hope Romney will send his five sons to fight in any war he may want to start!

After 20 years in the Army, part of which at Corp level procurement prioritization, the Army buys way too much of what it doesn't need. I'm sure the other branches of service are the same too. The US could cut 20% out of the military budget, keep the head count, and be just as effective. There is SO much bloat in the military, just like the government. Many of the "systems" are not needed, many are redundant, and they are so complex they require contractors to make them operate correct, at two to three times the salary of a Soldier. Remember the 60 Minutes story on the warehouses full of obsolete stuff from WW2 and Korea we still have? The same thing is happening today. We are swimming in stuff.

$6 billions less than the current budget of $525 billion would be a 1.1% cut. 1.1% is a "massive" cut?

Eliminating all government waste would reduce the budget by 50%. If you believe this will happen, I have some land to sell you.

Shocks me that Carl Levin would criticitize Romney. Again the AP news wire and Yahoo are on the cutting edge of reporting.

can't cut defense, can't cut medicare, social security, medicaid, veteran benefits, farm supports and no tax increases, and just how will the budget get balanced???

We need to be smarter on our defense (actually I'd more call it Offense) spending. Going with drones is a heck of a lot better than spending 10's of millions of U.S tax dollars on a jet that will be shot down. We still need human contact in the air, but we have the technology to make us that much more superior than any other country, we just need to make sure we don't loose the equipment to the enemy (Stealth Drone in Iran). We can maintain our military strength in so many ways today and when needed we use enlistment to fight our nations war. If you say "we need to leave everyone alone and take care of our own buisness" our world is to inter-connected to go back to a pre-WWI world. If we want our nation to prosper again, we have to trade with the world and spread our influence across the globe so that other countries do buy American products. Our military is above approach, but so is our export of "entertaiment" (Movies, music, etc...)

He can't be more clueless than Obama. That would be next to impossible just because Obama's never really even had a real job prior to anointment.

Instead of cutting military spending, we should be cutting politicians salaries.

When you read the Republican responses below you immediately realize why this country is going to hell in a hurry.

We should be closing down all of our foreign bases before the domestic ones. Military bases help support the local economy and we can't afford to prop up other countries when ours is in a recession.

Military leaders sid the biggest threat to National Security was the deficit. They embrace cuts versus failure.

We can no longer be the policeman of the world, make love not war.

This is an old canard and cuts both ways. I am old enough to remember JFK accusing the Eisenhower Adminstration of having let our military become weakened during the 1960 campaign.
