    Health Tip: Dealing With Alzheimer's

    (HealthDay News) -- Getting a diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease doesn't mean life as you know it is ending. People with Alzheimer's can lead a purposeful and productive life if they take steps to care for their physical and mental health, the Alzheimer's Association says.

    Here's what the association recommends to protect physical health:

    • Get regular physical checkups.
    • Take all medications as directed by a physician.
    • Eat a healthy diet.
    • Be physically active every day.
    • Get rest when fatigued.
    • Limit alcohol intake.

      My mom just died of ALZ and it is not as simple as the article says. In fact the article is full of #$%$ and is INSULTING.

      What a crock. How do you explain to an Alzheimer's patient how to use the bathroom when you have to...oops, too late. Then you get punched for trying to help. Or explain not to leave the water running? Or not to turn on the stove? Or not to run around naked? Useless info.

        Guess they suffered "memory loss." No offense intended.
        This "article" wasn't anything more than a checklist for "Health Basics 101" of which we should ALL strive to achieve. I was hoping for something more specific to those who are dealing with Alzheimer's. Did someone actually get paid for writing this overly simplistic, amateurish content??

      What an absolutely worthless article. My mother had advanced Alzheimer's and it has been hell on our family. She is now getting hostile when she was always a gentle soul her whole life. She suspects everyone of being against her. Getting her to wash her hands and take her meds are daily nightmares with lots of yelling from her and crying everyday. Don't even get me started on showering her. She relives peoples' deaths as if they just happened that day and goes through the grief all over again. This article does not even try to tackle the REAL challenges of this HORRENDOUS EVIL DISEASE!!! She eats a healthy enough diet but her body is still falling apart along with her mind. Nothing can really stop or slow down this disease once it takes hold. The lame Yahoo writers should try tackling coping skills for us loved ones of people with this disease. All you can do is try to cope and try to make the afflicted person as calm and comfortable as possible.

        Oh, and she got it in her early 50s and is now 60. Maybe they should try writing about why so many younger people are now getting this and what people can do to try to prevent its onset!!!

      Who researches these articles be for they are posted here "as fact". ??? Remember, if you can, just because it is in print does not make it so. If Yahoo news to be believed and accepted as true and good reporting...... give us the source.

      This does very little to help with mood swings,nightmares,stealing ,fits of anger,delusions,biting ,lying,cursing,refusal of medications and food,the list could go on and on .
      Someone of that advise may help with the onset ,but does very little to slow down the progression once the patient starts to lose memory....So sad...

        it is a horrifying disease and it displays in so many ways, sometimes people can say rational things that are actual made up....some people believe they can tell when someone has it, this is not so.
