    HELIOS UB2 Prerelease Supports Mac OS X Lion

    Upcoming HELIOS EtherShare UB2 is Mac OS X 10.7 ready, offering very fast and reliable TCP-based file and print server services to Mac network clients. The prerelease version is available free of charge.

    HELIOS Software GmbH, a leading developer of multi-purpose File-, Print-, Image-, and PDF-server software, launched the final preview of its HELIOS UB2 server solutions suite. Full support for Mac OS X 10.7 Lion clients is introduced with this prerelease version of UB2. The HELIOS UB2 server is a critical development for all Mac users in networked environments, as the new Mac OS X 10.7 introduces changes that affect compatibility with AFP servers and printer drivers. HELIOS EtherShare UB2 file and print services are fully TCP-based to be used for all existing Mac OS versions in Intranet and Internet environments of any scale.

    The new HELIOS EtherShare UB2, in combination with the new features and enhancements in HELIOS PCShare UB2 and WebShare UB2, make the HELIOS UB2 server solutions suite the best and most reliable cross-platform file and print server available. The HELIOS UB2 Server prerelease can be downloaded (along with release notes and manuals) and tested free of charge, at http://webshare.helios.de (user: heliosub2beta, password: heliosub2beta).

    The AFP server of HELIOS EtherShare UB2 supports AFP 3.3, providing Spotlight searches, extended attributes features and Time Machine backup support. A new volume users list allows hiding volumes from users who are not a member of the specified user list. UB2 includes a new Lion-compatible TCP printer driver offering fast and convenient printing using Bonjour printer browsing with automatic PPD installation. The new HELIOS Meta extension brings complete support for Finder comments for Mac OS X Lion clients. HELIOS Finder comments are cross-platform compatible, available to Mac, Windows, and Web clients using HELIOS EtherShare UB2, PCShare UB2 and WebShare UB2 solutions.
