Some of these websites I go to on a regular basis. Some of the others, I came across and thought they would be helpful. I don't use them very much because I don't often take road trips, nor do I have time to go camping very often. But I have done those types of trips and understand that these kind of information sites can be helpful in planning the trip.
Valuable and Necessary Travel Information Sites:
This first website ought to be in every traveler's favorites file if they fly at all. Considering all of the changes that are constantly taking place in the world of travel since 911, this ought to a be a must read before every trip, so that you don't encounter unpleasant surprises at the airport.
Especially considering the volcano situation that came up earlier this year, this website would have been necessary for finding another way to reroute your trip or at least to know if your particular flight would be taking off anytime soon.
The next three websites are some of my favorite places to go for information on just about anything travel related from the current regulations and happenings in the travel industry to extensive researches on various
travel subjects, equipment and any other travel industry related item that you may have a question on.
Travel Blogs:
This website has extensive research articles on just about anything travel related
such as GSM phones, travel equipment of all kinds some you may not have thought of
as well as different issues that relate to travel like trip planning to finding ways to
use flight loopholes. This website also has a wonderful blog and sends out a free weekly newsletter.
This site is by Joe Brancatelli. Some of his information is free and some of it is only available by yearly subscription. He sends out a free email with a mixture of free and subscription information. I've only used the free information. It has been helpful as well as entertaining.
This is strictly a blog which you can access from the url provided or through Joe Brancatelli's email. It's very informative as well as very entertaining. The author provides links in his stories for a lot of interesting travel and non-travel subjects.
Road Trip Sites:
This website covers travel gadgets specifically for road travel, routing for regional and national road trips, a forum to exchange suggestions, a calendar of events for different destinations, RV information, trip planning as well as a connection into Expedia's travel site.
Especially, now-a-days, this is a helpful site for just driving around
town no matter where you are in the US or in Canada. But this website is
also a helpful tool for any road trip you may take in any region of this
country or in Canada.
This website lists Federal, State and private parks and camp grounds in thirty-nine states. The links provide descriptions of the individual camp sites along with listing the amenities, prices, instructions on reservations and directions to the site.
General Travel Help Sites-Web Directories:
Toppest is a web directory for various listings in arts and crafts, humanities, luxury lifestyles, medical science, and performing arts. Among these listings there is a section on travel which lists links to pages that cover travel agencies and agents, discount travel sites, travel insurance, discount, adventure and and world travel as well as regional sites, travel guides and mapping.
If you're looking for a hotel, motel, inn or bed and breakfast located somewhere on this planet, anywhere on this planet, then this website may be what you're looking for. They have listings for accommodations from all regions on this planet. Their links provide information and contacts for any kind of trip you may be planning. They also include listings for restaurants and attractions as well as opportunities to make your reservations. This site also contains reviews and research on the listings as well as travel related current events links.
Yahoo Directory: Travel and Transportation:
This is another web directory. This one lists a very wide collection of links to specialized links on various subjects on travel and travel related information. Then in a lower section of the page there is another listing of fuller descriptive links on individual websites that are essential for every traveler, such as Mapquest, AAA and the passport office to name just a few.
This last entry has a huge directory of links for hotels all over the world as well as reviews on world wide destinations. They also link to activities, airlines, car ferries, rail travel, cruises, destinations, insurance
and vacations. They also offer a travel store, travel links and tips on money, passports and security as well as travel tools such as airport codes, a glossary of terms, news and the latest weather. They also list current
global events and have a search engine.
