Hermain Cain Deluded About Job Loss, Occupy Wall Street

Another Out of Touch Politician Places Blame Where It Doesn't Belong

This story comes from the Yahoo! Contributor Network, where individuals publish their unique perspectives on some of the world’s most popular websites.
Do you have a story to tell? Become a Yahoo! contributor

COMMENTARY | Herman Cain may have shot himself in the foot if he'd hoped to have a serious shot at the GOP presidential nomination -- at least with the average American, who can tell you that most of the unemployed are not out of a job because of their own doing.

ABC News reports Cain told the Wall Street Journal that people who are out of a job should not blame Wall Street or the big banks, but blame themselves instead. He also went as far as saying that the Occupy Wall Street protesters are just trying to distract from failed Obama policies.

Funny, I seem to recall that the Wall Street bailouts, funded by American taxpayers, took place in 2008, prior to President Obama moving into the White House. Why do Republicans seem to always forget this?

Americans who have lost jobs to corporations that moved them overseas, Americans who did not spend recklessly were all asked to pay for the irresponsibility of big banks, and now they are also responsible for the job losses that happened because of the economic recession?

While many Americans went hungry, these same big banks paid themselves millions, no, billions, in salaries and bonuses while accepting government bailouts.

Cain must be a complete fool if he is so out of touch that he doesn't remember any of this; or perhaps he just doesn't care. The majority of the GOP seems to care only about one thing, and that is laying the blame on our current administration.

GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney called the demonstrations "dangerous," and "class warfare," according to

I believe what would really be dangerous is doing nothing at all. Should Americans sit back and watch politicians and carnivorous corporations destroy our country? It's about time someone took a stand against them and those who stand for only one thing -- greed. These politicians care little about the average person in our nation.

A deputy fire chief who was with his department for 24 years lost his job due to city budget cuts. A man who worked as an information technology professional for over 25 years had his job sent to Argentina; with so many computer-related jobs sent overseas, he has gone back to school at the age of 50 to retrain in a completely different field.

Are these the type of people who are to "blame" for their lost jobs? I think not, Mr. Cain. If you want to lay the blame on someone, you might take a look in the mirror. The fault lies in the greedy, selfish individuals who accept millions while many Americans become poorer, hungrier, and without needed medical care every day.

"Another Out of Touch Politician Places Blame Where It Doesn't Belong".......... That's a headline for Obama. He's the KING of blame.

Cain and Romney, more out of touch arrogant politicians who do not understand or have any empathy for why people can not find work, and it is not like most are not trying. American workers are not lazy, they have families and take pride in doing a job well for a decent wage to support them. All I get are calls for temporary agencies or seasonal and I will be out of work in 3 months in the middle of winter. If a politician can not understand the cause, they can not be any part of a solution to fixing the problem. They have to stop blaming the workers and make the banks and corporations step up to help people back to work because it is the right thing if they are an American company. Be careful how you vote in the primary people, we could end up with another Obama in 2012.

No, he was just saying what all of us were thinking, I don't see anything wrong with his comments. He's the only one in the GOP who has a clear plan, I'm still waiting for Obama to come out with any coherent message. Herman Cain 2012, Yes We Cain!
    • logic  •  7 mths ago
Herman Cain doesn't have a clue what makes this country tick, he sells pizza, has done very well for himself but he is not in the know about what drives the economy, I certainly wouldn't want him in charge of foreign policy....he knows little about the constitution and has admitted that he is "learning" as he goes about the way government functions.

We NEED someone who has a clear understanding, someone who doesn't waver in his views and someone who actually has a PLAN to fix this mess we are in.....

We NEED Ron Paul in the oval office.

A vote for RON PAUL is a vote for AMERICA!

RON PAUL for President in 2012!

      Give us LIBERTY!

The wave of Republican governors and state legislators elected in 2010 have passed a radical right-wing agenda and devastating budget cuts that have put the whole country on the verge of a double-dip recession. Now they're pushing for more.

We have seen this year where the Republican Congress and Governors have put forth thousands of bills to reduce women's rights, bust unions, have given our tax dollars to corporations instead of supporting people even in their states, refusing unemployment benefits, funding jobs programs, food, housing, education, and medical treatment, and trying to take away Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. While at the same time the Supreme Court Justices are committing fraud and making decisions that benefit the corporations against the people.

The scariest part is, these right-wing extremists are pushing for even more. In states across the country, Republicans are calling "special sessions" to ram through even deeper budget cuts and partisan redistricting maps that will lock in GOP dominance for years to come.
Every state like is being hurt by these tea pukin party governors, because their deep budget cuts are dragging down our entire national economy.

Who would like a crystal ball that predicts where that f_uckin NYC Mayor Bloomberg, the King of Civil Rights Violations intends to be this coming November 3-4th?

I wanna know! I wanna know ! Says any abused peaceful NYC Wall Street Protestor. I wanna Know !

OK, then. Especially with the NYC Wall Street Protestors that have had their Civil Liberties Violated, I’ll tell you!

This million billion fu_ck scum intends to co-chair the “Opportunity Nation Summit” right in your back yard on 11-3-4th at the Apollo Theater.

(ANYONE ELSE GONNA BE THERE $#% ???) You will want to get there plenty early as competition to share your version of the philosophy of truth and justice with him will be stiff. Lot’s of other major Capitalist Players intend to be there too! Now how Kool is that???

There is only one thing that could make this event even more spectacular. Wouldn’t ya just luv it if the King of Protestor Harassment brought his wife, children, dog, cat, car, house and barn with him???? Gotta admit it. Wouldn’t ya just luv it!!!! Gotta luv this guy, and this is a chance.

Nov 3rd. The summit will kick off with a powerful narrative about the American Dream at an evening event at the legendary Apollo Theater.
Nov 4th. The summit will feature a small number of influential speakers who will speak both about their own experiences with opportunity – events and moments that shaped their lives – as well as highlight examples of how their work creates opportunity for others.

Even after all of this, it is still better being a Dem than being anything near to a Conservative- Capitalist -Facist that seeks to destroy the planet, the oceans, the fish, wildlife, forests, ecology, civil liberties, personal education opportunity individual growth and economy for all others save for one's own Crony system,.
Nuff said yet? I don't think so. Repuka publicans just don’t get it.
It exalts Big Business, Big Banks, Big Oil lies and deception as a fine way of life. It thrives on Free Government Grants and Public Financed Tax Breaks for the wealthy. It seeks to deceive all things true. It wallows in darkness so deep that it cannot seek truth nor understand it.
Repuka publicans create Iron Triangles with Capitalist, Government, and Courts to perfect selfish and morally abandoned self financial interest.
They create wars, need for a big defense, and an inflated budget expecting US to pay for it.

They are compassionate conservatives--when it comes to coddling the rich. The average American, who cannot afford to fill their campaign coffers really don't matter much these days; it really is all about pulling in as much money as you can. In essence, it is GREED, pure and simple. Herman Cain, like many of these Wall Street fat-cats, only cares about himself. No one has ever gotten wealthy in a bubble; Mr. Cain seems to have forgotten that he got to where he is today because someone else afforded him an opportunity and/or purchased a product that he was peddling. Also, he got there with the help of others as Elizabeth Warren so eloquently pointed out. These people don't want a hand-out; they simply want a hand-up, the same hand that was extended out to Mr. Cain & people like him who earned their slice of the American dream.

I may not be wealthy and at the moment, I am unemployed, but I see myself as successful. I am part of a family that did not value education--I am one of 4 (there are 9 of us) to graduate from high school and the only one to go on to undergrad and law school. While I did all the work myself to get to where I am today, I know that I would not be here if I did not have people (outside of my family) who believed in me when I did not believe in myself. I owe my success to four teachers and one USMC officer who saw my potential and refused to allow me to give up on myself. Without that support, I probably would have ended up like a large portion of the males in my high school graduating class--dead or in jail.
      • ATLTrini 7 mths ago
I'm so glad you are pointing out that we are not sticking all conservatives in one box. You are absolutely right, there are compassionate conservatives out there. I consider myself a moderate liberal, and value a good amount of conservative and liberal ideals. I don't see this country run on pure liberal or pure conservative values, but on a combination of both and other ideals. The country isn't made up that way, why should politics. I am not for the far left or right at all. When people get that far, they get far away from reality.

I'm not mad at Herman, because he's doing like every politician, give the people what they want to hear, and get them angry at the opposition to win some votes. Unfortunately, in trying to appease his followers, he actually blasted a good amount of them in his speech. He reminds me of Clarence Thomas - men who benefited, either directly or indirectly, from the same system they are putting down.

My hats off to you on not letting your current situation, or the comments of people like Herman Cain make you feel less human, or less American.
